Bova assists surviving patients of poachers in South Africa

Veterinarian, Dr Johan Marais, and his team care for the surviving patients of poachers in South Africa. Recent victims have included:

-       A rhinoceros bull that was shot and sustained fractures and a septic wound of the lower limb;

-       An elephant with a septic wound in the neck area;

-       A buffalo with a deep, septic wound on its distal limb.

With the help and guidance of the Bova team in Australia, pharmacists in South Africa were able to formulate antibiotics with a slow release thermo-reversible gel (Pluronic gel), which was used to successfully treat the septic wounds of these patients.
